GOT AN A-MODEL!!!
« on: May 22, 2009, 12:14:50 AM »
Well kindda. I got a cab and hood but it's a start. I made a deal with a guy in Hornbrook, CA. The deal was, I would wash and wax his 3 water trucks and after that the cab and hood were mine. I'll try to post pictures soon.

Well that is certainly a good deal.

Any idea if it's an early or late model cab? Standard or long hood?

Got some rails to put it on?

It's a short hood, which I prefer, and it's either a 1972 or 1973 cab. I am currently in search of some frame rails. Pictures should come this weekend.

Need pics!!

Is it an old model or late model cab? I've got one of both, but kind of like the old cab just because you don't see many of them anymore.

Okay, here are the pictures. As you can imagine this got quite few looks on the way home.

I don't know why but at some point someone put square headlights on it. ick!

A business down the street from me was kind enough to lend me the use of their forklift and me neighbor was nice enough to let me store it on a small piece of property behind her house.

A buddy of mine helped me strip the cab.

After:

So here's the parts pile. Let me know if there something you need. I just might have it.

Is there anyway I can make the pictures fit the screen?

You can resize the images using something Ifranview or similar.

That's a late model cab. Hood looks like it's in real good shape. Any rot in the cab?

I haven't found any root in the cab so far. The hood is in good overall shape. There's one crack about 5 or 6 inches long right above the breather cut out. And somebody cut a long section out of the passenger side like they were trying to make the hood even shorter. Wish I had seen that before. Oh well.

Guess you'll be buying some fiber glass supplies!!! It's pretty normal for them to crack around the air cleaner cutout and also around the inner support rib where the hood prop brackets bolt to.

Once you have that hood all glassed up, I'd use some rubberized undercoating and spray it under the fenders, it'll keep rocks from spiderwebbing the paint.

Thanks for the tip. I plan to keep it pretty original but add some modern stuff to help it stand the test of time.
